Narcissists Don’t Suffer From NPD; Their Partners Do.

Study finds NPD causes more pain and suffering in those close.

People who spend regular time with a narcissist (diagnosed or showing signs) are likely to suffer more distress than the person suffering from the disorder. The suffering of those close to narcissists predicts narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) in comparison to all other personality disorders.

It certainly feels that way if you're the target of a narcissist's rage. When you live with a narcissist, for any length of time, you’re so heavily exploited that it feels like they’ve drained the life right out of you.
