Narcissists crave attention — they’re so busy chasing attention that they don’t get it in the way they want it.

People who get a lot of attention often isolate. Popular people don’t like a lot of attention, they enjoy company, but don’t want to be overwhelmed, which happens frequently when you’re good company — because you enjoy good company, not the attention.

The narrative is that narcissists only care about themselves, which is not entirely true.

Think about the popular person who doesn’t invest in everyone else's lives and focuses on themselves. Those kinds of people are willing to be available when needed, if that time and energy does not take away from themselves and the projects and people that are are important to them.

Investing in yourself is smart, too.
