Should Covert Narcissism Be Separate From Grandiose Narcissism?

Covert and grandiose narcissists are too distinct.

I understand that covert narcissists fit within the criteria for narcissism because they have grandiose fantasies, lack empathy, are self-entitled and crave attention, but the experience of living with either is quite distinct.

“How starved you must have been that my heart became a meal for your ego.” — Amanda Torroni.

While covert narcissists are often deflated, depressed, stressed out, and when they try to exude confidence, it's clearly fake; grandiose narcissists are confident and rarely suffer from depression or stress.

I also think covert narcissists are worse because they keep it so well hidden. In front of other people, particularly their victim's friends and family, covert narcissists are infallible.

Coverts are also so damned whingy, it's honestly like dealing with a child with a permanent frown, and the childishness is so incredibly poignant that you find yourself speaking in a high-pitched voice and explaining everything in detail.

Overts or grandiose are obvious, they’re attention-seeking whores. Grandiose narcissists are the type of person running everyone down who doesn’t fulfil their expectations, gossiping, taking constant selfies, always bragging, and handing out advice as if they know what they’re talking about.

Overts are still like kids in adult bodies, but their obviousness makes it easier for other people to recognize a grandiose narcissist's faults so victims have a greater chance of getting support.

Anyway, those are a few thoughts about grandiose and covert narcissism that popped into my mind today. I normally do a lot of research when I write about narcissism; perhaps I’ll write a more thorough story on this another day.

Thanks for reading.❤
