At a time when knowledge shared is so often well misguided, scholarly knowledge claims should hold even greater value.
Sadly, it is unlikely that a Stanford lecture on personality disorders can reach anywhere near the views Tiktok can generate on the same topic, in a single day.
In a single millisecond, algorithms and the proliferation of content are such that critical and reputable sources of information, not legitimated by the ‘powers that be,’ rarely ever reach the general public.
Nonetheless, the slow burn of fascination with narcissism and other cluster B personality disorders continues to fan the flames of those devalued or discarded, much more so than those afflicted.
Sam Vaknin, a psychology professor with a diagnosis of narcissism, and Lee Hammock, a self-aware diagnosed narcissist, are two content creators working through their own diagnoses and sharing their insights with the rest of the world.
